"You fail to plan, then you plan to fail."
"Reach for the moon. Even if you miss, you'll land among the stars." Though, from a nerdy perspective, the stars are further away so I think I wanna reach for them, anyway, because that means I went further in life
I don't know about y'all, but I see everyone on BT as extended family. I love every single one of you unconditionally, and I can't imagine a time before having known everyone here. We've been together to listen to each other's rantings, cheer at each other's victories, hand out helpful advice, or curse someone's name together This being said, I feel comfortable enough to bring y'all into my own personal planning for the future of my life--what course I plan on taking. Everyone, feel free to add on your own courses in life, advice to others on how to obtain their goals, joyfully give support, tell someone that a certain thing doesn't seem to be a thing that'd fit them, etc. So, here's my 'plan for the future'.
I am going to continue battling through AP Biology, Pre-AP Chem, Pre-AP Algebra 2, Yearbook, AP English 11, History, and German 3. I'm a Statue of Liberty Waver at Liberty Tax for the next few months to save up on money. I plan to work on getting my license and will jack one of my parent's 3 cars so as to have a new job (one that I don't need my mother's transport to, thus it can be anywhere).
Four months up and a new license in hand, I will become a more active volunteer at Angels of Assisi Animal Clinic. Not sure where I will work at at this point in time (need to be 18 to work at Angels of Assisi), but that will be answered when the time draws nearer. Maybe Liberty Tax will keep me (though I will REFUSE to continue being a waver...most boring job in the world--five hours of standing there waving in single digit temperatures....fun fun).
School comes back and I go on to do Anatomy, AP Environmental Sciences, Yearbook, Government, Healthy Living, Adv Algebra/Trig, and AP English 12. Year goes on, I turn 18, move on to work at Angels of Assisi either as a second job OR, if I hate my current job, it can be my only job (you see, I literally have no social life outside of church, and I don't want one, so two jobs will be perfect).
Now my senior year comes to a close and I graduate with my Advanced Diploma(hopefully, lol). Almost immediately, I am going to work my 10 months with Americorps (yes, I will get paid). This will help me raise money for both college (if scholarships don't cover it) and my Appalachian Trail trip. Speaking of which, soon as I get back from my 10 months working with Americorps (coming home on weekends), I will set off to Maine (Katahdin Mountain). There I begin my 6.5 months (that's how long it should take according to my average hiking rate, though that is providing I do not get caught in huge storms) hike on the Appalachian Trail with just my dog as a companion for that time.
After that hike is complete, I shall return and recuperate for a VERY short time (month at the most) and then leap into college. During that month of recuperation, I will, hopefully, purchase my own car. I plan on majoring in Outdoor Education and Leadership and maybe minoring in Photography at Central Wyoming College. I will, of course, drive or fly home on Christmas and Summer break to be with the family in Virginia One of my semester courses for CWC will be covered by National Outdoor Leadership School (video). After college is all said and done with, I plan to do the Florida Trail. My dog will probably not join me on this one because of age (though, by that time, we may have a bigger, but younger pooch to tag along while my little old Appalachian Trail Beagle can stay home and sleep). Once I return from that I will jump into being a Park Ranger in a Virginia National Park (haven't decided which, yet).
Other hikes I plan to do sometime in life (I do not believe in doing sectional hiking. This means that I will do an ENTIRE hike, not chop into pieces and do it little by little...oh, and I will probably do these with for causes so as to be sponsered):
Eastern Continental Hike
American Discovery Trail
Great Western Loop
Iditarod Trail
North Country Trail
Pacific Crest Trail (this is a definite)
Pacific Northwest Trail
In addition to those, I would love to try some smaller (less than 1,000 miles) USA backpacking hikes. There are many listed here (all my above ones can also be found there).
As an added note, if I get the chance, any out of country backpacking hikes would be amazing...but only without a tour guide and group. That takes away from the experience.
Yes, I plan to die on a long distance hike.
