Radioactive - Imagine Dragon
I watched the sun rise over the horizon, as I'd woke from my sleep early and not been able to return to the realm of sleep. The sun slowly creeped into the sky, bringing its light with it, and with the nature of my dreams, I feared the light. I sat underneath my low hanging branch near the edge of the clearing upright, my body draped in the shadows like a ghost from another time, another place. And perhaps here, that was true enough. I was the only Folami in the whole of this pack like myself. I knew of my soul from the very start. Somewhere there was the dusty and disused ability to care from my kind, still there after all this time. And I was the only one with the much longer lifespan. For my age, I was just as old as Dear Sister and Brother, I still looked a young adult rather than a fully matured warrior. I still felt it in my waking hours. I was the only one like myself I knew with the unnatural white markings on my face. And my eyes that could peer into another's gaze and unwrap the nature of their soul, I shared this trait with Rickalaru and Haynato alone.
My dreams had scared me. They where of blood, and pain, and fire. They'd been of the other me... The more violent one. For some reason... I'd tracked Haynato down and murdered his lioness mate infront of him, then ripped his face off and watched him drown in his own blood. Stitch had tried to stop me, but I ripped he belly open and didn't stop digging until she lay before me in two pieces. The dream had ended with me screaming skyward in pain, mental pain. My body had been ablaze, scarlet flames coiled around me in sweet embrace, burning away all that I was, but I couldn't feel that pain next to the pain in my head. I couldn't wake up fast enough from that nightmare.
I shook myself to drive the images from my mind, to no avail. Finally I squeezed shut my eyes, aiming my face down at the ground. Pain shot across my face as I finally forced the images from my mind. I sat there for a few moments breathing slowly to settle myself, and once I felt calm return to my bones the same neutral expression found its place once again on my face. Slowly my eyes opened, and the first thing I saw where my paws. My dark grey paws that slowly faded back into solid black like the rest of me. Slowly turning my head, I gazed at my right lower hind leg. It was wrapped in tattered bandages to hind the majority of the huge burn scar there, only the traces that ran higher up my leg visible.
Facing the world again, I took a deep breath, then slowly I raised one paw, and edged it out into the sunlight. As soon as I felt the warmth on it, I retreated it again, for fear of injury. Nothing happened. Again I slowly reached out into the light, placing that paw on the ground. Raising up on my back legs, I moved forward into the light, my eyes shutting as they passed from the dark to the light. Opening them cautiously, they weren't rented from my skull by the warmth. Satisfied that the same rules of logic still applied and that the nightmare was truly and fully over, a deep breath escaped me. Quickly wanted to put the ordeal all behind me I decided to go hunting for the morning. Slowly I crossed the camp's clearing for the treeline on the other side.
