Stitch and Newol
I gently nudged the black pup in front of me as I moved through the woods. He was an energetic and curious little creature, this Folami that had come from me. Every time I settled my eyes on him, or any of my children, warmth filled me. I loved them. All of them. Not being a fool, I knew too well that this was my only litter. They where my blessing. My token for not failing to survive. Those Riddles In The Dark, the history of my coming to existence. I'd made it. I'd still turned out fully functional. Still, seeing them filled me with pride. It had been a long time sense I'd been up and about on any real personal time, between the pups and Nym and the pack. I was always busy it seemed. But I had decided that I would claim today for us regardless.
Before long, I reached the spot where Nym and I used to meet in secret. The small clearing with the tall pine tree and the jutting root with my claw marks scared in it after all this time. Taking a seat, I wrapped my tail around my paws and gave my little Newol a lick behind his ear. The black pup looked up at me with his green eyes and a smile spread my face. I gentle voiced the words, "Go on," and with that, he set off to exploring his surroundings. I watched his moments happily. Eventually he made his way to the root with my claw marks in it, and began examining them. I couldn't help but think of how I intended to raise these pups. I knew I couldn't control what they turned out to be. It would be an injustice considering how I'd come to grow up. They would know the history of our species, and they would be trained and guided in right and wrong. The structure of a pack and the rules. Same as I had been taught. But also, I would allow them to grow and the paws of Nature. The same as I had been. I would allow them just as much nature, as I did nurture. It was only fair.
A light chuckle found my lips as I thought of my mate. Oh how mean I'd been to him this morning. He was trying so very hard to be a father, I knew this. But I'd really gotten him this morning when I'd given him little Cera and Vale, and taken Newol and simply left him there with the request that he bring them here around midday. I was sure Nym would be fine, uncomfortable maybe, but he'd manage. He'd proven that he could so far...
Even after all the pain I'd caused him to get him here. All the torment. It wasn't easy, to accept that your original design was no longer valid. I knew that. For a moment my expression because a tad sorrowful. But then I looked at my child, and all that faded. Me and Nym, for better or worst, Our legacies would live on in this land.
